Tuesday Ten and Happy Birthday Megan!

Yesterday, my Megan turned 9!!!  She’s a pretty special little lady, so today’s Tuesday Ten is dedicated to her.  Here are ten things that make Megan very uniquely MEGAN!!

1. She is extremely energetic. - Since she was a baby, Megan has always been busy, busy, busy.  She runs at full speed ahead all the time and does not sit still unless she is sick or asleep.  If I had even half as much energy as she does, I could get so much more done!
2. She’s moody. - I think that perhaps those raging hormones are beginning to rear their ugly heads.  Although Megan is usually happy and cheery, her mood can change in the blink of an eye.  Sometimes, the slightest thing can turn her into a grumpy grump and then, just as quickly, she returns to her sunshine-y self! 
3. She doesn’t mind the mess. - Someitmes, this makes me crazy, because I like to keep things neat and tidy.  Megan’s room is almost always a disaster and she tends to leave a trail behind herself - food wrappers, clothes, papers, whatever.  Her constant messes are my nemesis.  
4. She is willing to try new things. -  She is the least picky eater in my crew.  She is not afraid to play a new game or go somewhere different.
5. She is good at math. -  She obviously gets this trait from her dad. :-) Math is her favorite subject and it comes easily for her.
6. Conversely, she does’t like to read. - She is picky about which books she will read and getting her to do it can be like pulling teeth.  But, she gets very excited when she finishes a book.
7. She is great at puzzles. - Maybe it goes along with the math skills, but this is one of her unique skills.  She’s is great at doing jigsaw puzzles, word searches, and mazes.
8. She has her own style.- That style centers around jeans.  She wears skinny jeans, black jeans, pink jeans, purple jeans - it’s pretty much the only kind of pants in her “wardrobe.”
9. She cares about others.- She thinks about other people and takes pride in doing nice things for others.  The world could use a lot more kindness like hers.
10. She is not afraid to be herself. - She is unique and quirky and she owns it!  She does what make her happy and doesn’t care what other people think.  (At least for now!)

Happy Happy Birthday Megan!!  You are unique and wonderful!! I love you so much and hope you have a million more happy birthdays!!!

Tuesday Ten - Q and A with Megan

A couple of weeks ago, I interviewed my youngest, Emily.  I asked her ten questions and gave you her answers.  My middle daughter, Megan, sat in on that interview and was eager to be interviewed herself.  So, for today's Tuesday Ten, here's my interview with my favorite almost nine year old.

1. What is you favorite season and why?

Winter because my birthday is in it!

2. What is your favorite thing to do in school?

Math!  (Clear evidence that at least half of her genes DO NOT come from me!)

3. What is your favorite thing to do when you're at home?

Play school.

4. If you did all the cooking, what would we have for supper tonight?

Ice cream and candy and brownies!  That would be awesome!

5. If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?

I would make it not rain on important days or days when I am supposed to have a soccer game! 

6. What is your favorite book or story?

The "I Survived" series.

7. Tell me a couple things you want for Christmas and your December birthday this year.

A pony!  A kid's iPad.  That's all I can think of right now.

8. If you could have one superpower what would it be and what would you do?

Invisibility because it would be cool if I could see what everyone was doing but they couldn't see me.

9. Do you like your name "Megan?"  If you could change it, what name would you give yourself?

Yes I like my name.  If I could change it, I would leave it as Megan. 

10. Do you have a joke you can tell me?

Why was the Bacon laughing?   Because the egg cracked a yolk!

There you go - a glimpse into the mind of my super energetic Mego Lego!

(Think there's any chance at all I will be able to get my eleven year old to do an interview???  Yeah, me neither!)

Bibbity Boppity Boo

Since finish the Sentence Friday took last week off for the Labor Day holiday, I have actually had two whole weeks to contemplate today's topic.  However, this one has been unexpectedly hard for me.

The sentence for this week is If I had a magic wand the first thing I would do is. . . . 

I will admit that my initial thoughts on the topic were miserably superficial.  I thought, "I would
make these stubborn 15-20 pounds vanish for good."  Then I thought, "Or maybe I would whip up an endless source of cash so we would never, ever have to worry about money.  We could give to charity, take a family trip to Europe, and pay for all three girls' college educations and weddings without even batting an eye."

Those things seemed rather frivolous, though.  I decided I need to be more contemplative and come up with something more meaningful and worthwhile.  So, I thought "I could cure cancer.  I could end hunger, poverty, and suffering.  I could wave the wand and create instantaneous world peace."  However, all of them seemed like such weighty and important aspirations that I still couldn't narrow it down to just one.

One evening, after I had spent a great deal of the day pondering this post and the deadline was rapidly approaching, I decided on a whim to ask my girls what they would do.  They are all familiar with my blog.  As we sat around the dinner table, I explained the premise of Finish the Sentence Friday.  Then I asked them, "If you had a magic wand, what is the first thing you would do?"

Emily, 6, answered first.  Not surprisingly, she said, "I would turn our house into a castle and we would all be princesses.  You and Daddy would be the King and Queen!"

After a little thought, Rachel answered next.  "There are a lot of things I would like to do so it's hard to decide.  I would probably just give myself a great big zoo - the most awesome zoo ever!"  This response was not terribly surprising either.

Later that evening, I realized that Megan had never answered, so, as I put her to bed, I revisited the topic.  "You know, you never gave me an answer about the magic wand question.  If you had a wand what would you do?"

Her answer did surprise me.  My always active, super silly, quirky, and wonderful Megan said, "Well, I might get myself a horse, but I already have a roof over my head, and food, and this warm bed, and a family that loves me.  So, really, I don't need anything else."

And that, my friends, is the best answer of all, don't you think?

There is just nothing that puts things into perspective like the innocence and simplicity of life as seen through the eyes of a child.
